Dr (Mrs.) Suwebat Iyabo Are was born on September 10th 1958 in Lagos to the family of Late Alhaji S. A. Dawodu, a former Permanent Secretary in Lagos State Civil Service in the 70s, and Mrs. M. M. Dawodu. She attended Corona School Yaba from 1963 to 1967 and Lagos University Staff School from 1967 to 1969 for her primary education. She was also at Queens’ College Yaba from 1970 to 1974 for her secondary education. She later attended The Polytechnic Ibadan for her A/Levels in 1975. Dr. (Mrs.) Are attended Cairo University Egypt between 1976 and 1981 for her Medical Studies at the completion of which she qualified with MB.BCH.
Dr. ( Mrs.) Are commenced her working career as a House Officer at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in 1982 and did the National Youth Service at Railway Hospital Ebute Metta, Lagos, in 1983. After the N Y S C year, she got appointment at the Ministry of Defense as a Medical Officer at the Military Hospital Yaba from September 1983 to August 1986. She later switched to Lagos State Service in November 1986 as a Medical Officer at Ebute Metta Health Centre. In 1990 Dr (Mrs.) Are moved on to General Hospital Ikeja in continuation of her service to the State.
In 1991, Dr. (Mrs.) Are proceeded for further study on Radiology at LUTH residency. On completion of the study in 1996, she was posted to Randle Health Centre at the same time overseeing the Isolo General Hospital as a Radiologist. In furtherance of her service to the state, she was posted to Gbagada General Hospital and the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital in alternating disposition with Gbagada General Hospital being the senior beneficiary from 2001 to 20017. Before 2017 however, in year 2015, she was posted to General Hospital Lagos thereby terminating her services at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital but still serving co-coordinately at Gbagada General Hospital. In June 2017 Dr. (Mrs.) Are resumed at the General Hospital Lagos as the Director Radiology Services, the position she held before she was appointed by His Excellency as Permanent Secretary in Lagos State civil Service and assigned to Primary Health Care Board.
