Dr. Olufemi Onanuga is the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary Health Care for Lagos State, Nigeria’s most populous State, with over 22 million inhabitants. He is responsible for the supervision of the Primary Health care Board (PHCB), Pharmaceutical Services, HEFFAMA, Occupational Health, Disease Control, Family Health & Nutrition, as well as supervising over 280 Primary health care centers in Lagos state.
Dr. Onanuga has over 21 year experience in the health planning and programming in the Local Government Area; including the supervision and organization of Primary health care centers where he moved through Lagos Island LGA, Eti-Osa LGA, Apapa LGA, Mushin LGA, Alimosho LGA as the Medical Officers of Health in those local Governments.
He also spent another ten (10) years as the Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer supervising various hospitals such as Ifako-Ijaye General Hospital, Mainland Hospital Yaba, (Infectious Disease Hospital, IDH) which he re-organized and saw to the construction of the Multi Drug Resistant Tuberculosis Building (MDRTB) which was ultimately used to COMBAT THE EBOLA VIRUS PANDEMIC IN 2014. This building was used to isolate all EBOLA PATIENTS all over Lagos state as well as various states over the country (A product of an idea put together by him in 2008).
He was the MD/CEO of Randle General from 2011 where he effectively supervised the day to day activities of the Hospital as well as the supervision of the, GBAJA Mother Child Care Centre MCC Gbaja. Both arms of the hospital were effectively managed by him until he became a Permanent Secretary Special Health Services in 2014.
Dr. Onanuga attended Ijebu-ode Grammar School,Ogun state. He is a graduate of the College of Health sciences (University of Ife) now the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Osun State Nigeria, obtained his Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree from University of Lagos and his Masters of Administration (MPA) degree from University of Ado-Ekiti.
